Pharyngeal foreign bodies are common emergencies in Otorhinolaryngology. In Vietnam, fish bones account for the majority of these cases. According to a study by Vo Hoang Cuong, fish bones represent 87.6% of all ingested foreign bodies in Vietnam [1]. Most cases are successfully managed via endoscopic retrieval. However, severe complications can occur. We report a case of a fish bone that migrated through the pharyngeal wall, resulting in superficial neck abscess. Although initial endoscopy failed to identify the foreign body, its precise location was determined through ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT) scans. The patient subsequently underwent an external cervical approach for abscess drainage and successful retrieval of the foreign body.
