PERINEAL ABSCESS CAUSED BY STREPCOCCUS PNEUMONIAE: CASE REPORT

Abstract

Soft tissue abscesses in the perineal region are typically caused by bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus spp, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella spp, or anaerobes, often leading to recurrence and complications. Streptococcus pneumoniae is primarily known as a pathogen causing respiratory tract infections and is, in rare cases, implicated in abscesses of the genital-perineal region.

A 42-year-old female patient diagnosed with a perineal abscess caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae was managed via incision and drainage of the inflammatory mass, combined with local care and antibiotics.

Perineal abscess caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae is a rare occurrence. To ensure effective treatment and prevent recurrence or complications, it is imperative to combine abscess drainage with use of appropriate antibiotic, which is determined by culture results and antibiograms.
