Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers infected with H.pylori participating in a study evaluating the effects of THV hard capsules at Thai Binh University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital.

Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study combined with an interventional study was conducted on 102 patients with gastric and duodenal ulcers infected with H.pylori from January 2021 to June 2022. 52 patients participated in the study group (taking THV hard capsules) and 50 patients participated in the control group (taking Omeprazole combined with Metronidazole and Amoxicillin).

Results: The mean age of patients was 45.2 ± 12.3 in the intervention group and 46.3 ± 11.8 in the control group, the age group of 30-49 years accounted for the highest proportion, with 57.7% in the intervention group and 60% in the control group. Male patients accounted for 65.4% in the intervention group and 66% in the control group, higher than females in both groups, with statistically significant differences (p < 0.05). A total of 93.1% of patients had a single ulcer, and 81.4% had ulcers measuring 0.5-1.0 cm. All patients (100%) in both groups experienced epigastric pain, belching, and acid regurgitation. Superficial gastritis was observed in 42.3% of the intervention group and 46% of the control group.

Conclusion: Collecting clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients, along with identifying risk factors, provides a scientific basis for appropriate and accurate evaluation and interpretation of intervention outcomes.
