Abstract

Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of patients with pectus excavatum undergoing thoracoscopic-assisted Nuss procedure at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital

Subjects and Methods: A descriptive case series combining retrospective and prospective data on 131 patients with pectus excavatum who underwent thoracoscopic-assisted Nuss procedure at the Vietnam National Children’s Hospital (January 2023–December 2025)

Results: The mean age was 10.3 ± 3.3 years, with male predominance (74.05%). Most patients presented with chest depression (96.92%) and were detected before puberty (68.7%). The deformity was mainly simple and symmetric (99.2%), predominantly type 1A (97.71%). Chest X-ray and echocardiography were mostly normal (96.95% and 95.41%, respectively). The mean Haller index was 3.92 ± 1.01, mean ejection fraction was 66 ± 8.17%, and pulmonary function was generally normal

Conclusion: To conduct a thorough assessment and analysis the clinical and paraclinical characteristics of each patient before surgery, serving as a basis for optimizing treatment outcomes and advancing personalized treatment strategies.
