Objectives: To assess some clinical characteristics and lesions on CT scan of pediatric
traumatic brain injury treated at the Department of Traumato Orthopaedic - Burn, Nghe An
Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital.
Methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 114 cases of traumatic brain injury in children
treated at Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital from January to July 2022.
Results: 70 males (61.4%), 44 females (38,6%), Median age 6.3 ± 3.4 , youngest: 6 month
years old, oldest: 15 years old. Home accidents, the most common cause, accounted for (54.4%).
The rate of minor traumatic brain injury according to GCS: 112 patients (98.2%); moderate: 1
patients (0.9%). CTscan: skull fracture (68.4%); epidural hematoma (39.5%); both these lesions
(30.7%). Management attitude: Conservative treatment for 104 patients (91.2%); surgery for 10
patients (8.8%). Discharge results: Good-112 patients (98.2%). No deaths.
Conclusions: The cause of traumatic brain injury in children due to home accidents and traffic
accidents is still high; Primary school age accounts (6 - 10) for the highest percentage, so it is
necessary to pay more attention to this subject to reduce the rate of trauma in general and traumatic
brain injury in particular.
