Objective: To present and analyze a rare case of suppurative appendicitis with cecal perforation causing generalized peritonitis due to a fish bone, reported at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital.
Subject and methods: Descriptive case report: A 63-year-old female patient diagnosed and treated for generalized peritonitis caused by suppurative appendicitis with cecal perforation due to a fish bone at Vo Truong Toan University Hospital in 2025.
Results: The patient underwent successful surgery with conversion from laparoscopic to open approach and cecostomy drainage, was discharged after 8 days of treatment, and no complications were recorded.
Conclusion: Sharp gastrointestinal foreign bodies can cause severe complications if not detected early and are often mistaken for acute appendicitis. This case highlights the importance of timely diagnosis and appropriate surgical intervention in managing peritonitis caused by foreign bodies.
