Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the treatment outcomes of postpartum hemorrhage (PPH) at Tay Nguyen Regional General Hospital during the period 2019–2022.

Subject and method: A retrospective cross-sectional study was conducted on all postpartum women diagnosed with PPH and treated at Tay Nguyen Regional General Hospital from January 2019 to December 2022. Data were collected from medical records and analyzed using SPSS 20.0, employing descriptive statistics and the Chi-square test with a significance level of p < 0.05.

Results: The PPH rate ranged from 0.35% to 2.89%, peaking in 2021. Most affected women were aged 20–35 years, had neonates weighing ≤ 3500 g, and delivered vaginally. Uterine atony was the most common cause. Conservative management—uterine massage, uterotonic medications, and intrauterine tamponade—showed high effectiveness, while procedural and surgical interventions achieved success rates above 80%. Packed red blood cells were the most frequently transfused component. The mean treatment duration was 6.4 ± 2.17 days, and most patients recovered well, with no maternal deaths recorded.

Conclusion: Postpartum hemorrhage can be effectively controlled with early recognition and adherence to stepwise management protocols. Enhanced prophylaxis, multidisciplinary coordination, and emergency obstetric training have contributed to improved outcomes and reduced complications for postpartum women.
