Objective: To describe the level of caregiver burden among caregivers of patients treated in the Intensive Care Unit - Toxicology Department at Kien An Hospital in 2025, and to identify associated factors.
Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 107 caregivers of patients treated in the Intensive Care Unit - Toxicology Department at Kien An Hospital from April 2025 to August 2025, using the Zarit caregiver burden interview (ZBI). Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 26.0 with Mann-Whitney U/Kruskal-Wallis H, and Spearman correlation.
Results: Most caregivers were children of the patients (58.9%), female (72%), aged 41-60 years (52.3%), married (98.1%), and had education above high school level (66.4%). The mean ZBI burden score was 35.52 ± 10.4. ZBI scores ranged as follows: 37.4% mild to moderate burden, 42% moderate to severe burden. Caregiver burden was significantly associated with age relationship to the patient (p = 0.007), education level (p = 0.032), occupation (p = 0.017), age (r = 0.325; p = 0.001) and income (r = -0.203; p = 0.036).
Conclusion: Caregivers of patients in the Intensive Care Unit - Toxicology Department, Kien An Hospital experienced a moderate level of burden. Factors associated with caregiver burden included age, relationship to the patient, education level, occupation, and income.
