Objectives: Evaluating the effectiveness of oral iron supplementation in children and
proposing effective solutions for the treatment of iron deficiency anemia in children at the
Outpatient Department - Nghe An Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital.
Subjects-methods: A describes the effectiveness of the intervention with comparison before
and after 61 children under 5 years old are diagnosed and treated for iron deficiency anemia
at Nghe An Obstetrics and Children’s Hospital.
Result: The most common symptom is pale skin and mucous membranes with 96.7%. The
average Hb was 92.11 ± 11.5 g/L. The average Fe at the age of 6-24 months was the lowest
with 3.61 ± 2.1 mmol/L. After 12 weeks of treatment, only 6 children have anemia.
Conclusions: Oral treatment of iron deficiency anemia is effective. In addition to acute
diseases, doctors should pay attention to signs of anemia in children for timely treatment,
especially children aged 6-24 months.
