Abstract
Fatty oil extracted from perilla seeds contains unsaturated fatty acids linolenic acid and linoleic acid which have good effects in lowering blood lipids. The study was conducted to determine the toxicity of perilla seed oil as a basis for developing production of perilla seed fatty oil into a safe product, supporting the treatment of dyslipidemia. The test results showed that the test product prepared from fatty oil extracted from perilla seeds at a dose of 40mL/kg (Acid linoleic 58,48%, acid linolenic 19,27%) – the highest dose that could be given to rats through a curved needle - did not show acute toxicity. When administered in repeated dose for 28 days, perilla seed oil showed no toxicity in rabbits.
