Abstract

Objects: To describe the caregiver burden among heart failure patients at Vinmec Times City International General Hospital in 2024; and to analyze factors associated with caregiver burden.

Method: Cross-sectional descriptive study design, conducted on 80 caregivers of heart failure patients using medical records and ZBI toolkit

Results: The results showed that all caregivers felt burdened. The mean ZBI score was 44.2 ± 11.8. The highest proportion of burden was severe (41-60 points) (48.8%), moderate (21-40 points) was 38.7%, and very severe (61-88 points) was 12.5%. Two common manifestations were feeling dependent on the patient (23.7%) and stress when being with the patient (28.7%). Related factors included the occupation, marital status of the caregiver, and the severity of heart failure of the patient (statistically significant with p < 0.05). Conclusion: The burden of caring for patients with heart failure is common and high; attention should be paid to psychological support, knowledge of caregiving, and socio-economic conditions for caregivers, especially in cases of patients with severe heart failure.

Conclusion: The burden of caring for patients with heart failure is common and high; attention should be paid to psychological support, knowledge of caregiving, and socio-economic conditions for caregivers, especially in cases of patients with severe heart failure.
