Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of herbal steam therapy using the Chi thong thang 103
formula combined with acupressure massage and electroacupuncture in patients with primary
periarthritis of the shoulder.
Method: A prospective controlled study comparing pre- and post-treatment outcomes in 60 patients
diagnosed with primary periarthritis of the shoulder, conducted at the Traditional Medicine
Department of 103 Military Hospital from January 2024 to December 2024.
Results: After 15 days of treatment, the study group had improved pain levels according to the VAS
scale, the average VAS score decreased from 5.20 ± 1.7 to 0.5 ± 1.4 (p < 0.05); the average EFA score
increased from 7.73 ± 1.01 points to 15.67 ± 1.17 (p < 0.05). No adverse effects were recorded.
Conclusion: Herbal steam therapy using Chi thong thang 103 combined with acupressure massage
and electroacupuncture demonstrates significant treatment effectiveness in patients with primary
periarthritis of the shoulder.
