Objectives: To assess patient satisfaction with the communication of nursing staff providing care in the surgical departments of K Hospital.
Patients: A total of 172 patients treated in 12 surgical departments at K Hospital from March 2024 to August 2024.
Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study.
Results: Among the 172 patients studied, the majority were over 60 years old (48.3%); male-to-female ratio: 1.15:1; most were of Kinh ethnicity (91.9%); the majority had a hospital stay of 6-10 days (55.8%). Most patients were satisfied with nurses' communication (92.4%); satisfaction during shift handover ranged from 81.4% to 100%; satisfaction during working hours reached 90.7%; satisfaction outside working hours ranged from 88.3% to 96.5%; satisfaction with nursing care services during working hours ranged from 84.3% to 97.7%; satisfaction with nursing care services outside working hours was high, from 88.4% to 100%. The proportion of patients requesting additional pain medication was 30.2%.
Conclusions: Overall, nurses at K Hospital were highly rated by patients in terms of communication, attitude, and care services. However, certain aspects such as proactiveness, responsiveness, and friendliness still need improvement to further enhance patient satisfaction.
