Clinical outcomes of total hip arthroplasty in patients with avascular necrossis of the femoral head

Abstract

Objective: Describing clinical outcomes of cementless total hip arthroplasty in patients with avascular necrossis (AVN) of the femoral head

Patients and method: Studied prospectively 120 AVN patients were diagnosed and operated at Vieduc University Hospital.

Results: Mean follow up 25,5 months. The result was 85% in excellent, 12,5% in good, 2,5% in fair. The average Harris hip score pre-operation was 54,6 ± 6,7, after 12 months post-operation was 96,7 ± 6,2. Femoral component was found neutral in 76,7%. Femoral fit (>80%) was 79,8%. Acetabular component inclination angle in range 40-45° was 74,2%. Post-operation thigh pain was 45,8% and decreasing after 12 months in 1,7%. The complication post-operation was not found.

          Conclusion: Cementless total hip arthroplasty has excellent funtional outcomes with no complication  in patients with AVN of the femoral head.
