Objective: To assess outcomes of intertrochanteric femur fractures in elderly patients treated with hip arthroplasty at Hoa Binh General Hospital, Hai Duong province from January 2023 to August 2024.
Subjects and methods: A descriptive study on 63 elderly patients undergoing hip replacement for intertrochanteric fractures who underwent hip replacement surgery at Hoa Binh General Hospital, Hai Duong province.
Results: The average age of patients was 83.6 ± 5.7 years; 28 men, 35 women. The left hip joint is damaged more (54%) than the right hip joint (46%). The average hospital stay was 10.97 ± 1.76 days. Type A2 lesion morphology accounts for the majority (79.4%). Partial hip replacement treatment accounts for 81%. Evaluating treatment results according to the Harris scale, 81% achieved very good and good results; 12.7% achieved good results; 6.3% achieved average results; no bad results. Postoperative complications are mainly joint pain (9.5%).
Conclusions: Partial hip arthroplasty is a highly effective surgical intervention for elderly patients with intertrochanteric femur fractures, providing substantial pain relief and functional restoration. However, long-term follow-up is crucial to monitor the longevity of the prosthetic joint and to detect any potential late-onset complications
