Abstract

Bone metastases are the most common lytic lesions in patients more than 40 years old. Pathologic fractures related to bone metastases significantly increase pain and disability, and they are associated with higher mortality. The femur is the most common site in long bone metastatic fractures. The study mainly aims to report our experience concerning this condition and review the available literature. We followed from the first clinical examination to surgical treatment, reporting all procedures and results to explain our diagnostic approach and surgical treatment in these cases. Three cases of femoral fracture were included. One patient was surgically treated with an intramedullary nail (IM), one with IM nail plus cementation, and one with cemented hemiarthroplasty. The treatment objective of these patients was to achieve quality of life and avoid implant failure.
