Objectives: Describe the clinical characteristics of vitamin D deficiency rickets in children from 2-36 months old at the Pediatric Center, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.
Materials and methods: Cross-sectional descriptive study of 141 children from 2-36 months diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency rickets treated at the Pediatric Center, Thai Nguyen Central Hospital.
Results: Among the 141 children participating in the study, boys accounted for more (58.9%) than girls (41.1%); the age group over 6 to 12 months (31.9%) was the most and the age group 2-6 months (12.1%) was the least; Kinh ethnicity (56%) was more than other ethnicities (44%); rural (58.9%) was more than urban (41.1%); normal nutritional status accounted for (63.8%) and (36.2%) were malnourished. Regarding clinical characteristics, the most common symptom was night sweats (98.6%) followed by restless sleep (63.8%), nape hair loss (47.5%), delayed tooth growth (39.7%) and the rarest was wrist and ankle girdle (4.3%).
Conclusions: Night sweats and restless sleep are the most common clinical signs of vitamin D deficiency rickets in children aged 2-36 months.
