Objective: Describe the results of managing nurses' communication and behavioral skills and some influencing factors at Binh Tan Dist Medical Center, Vinh Long Province, 2023.
Methods: A cross-sectional research design, combining quantitative and qualitative, was conducted on 259 patients and 30 nurses working at Binh Tan Dist Medical Center, Vinh Long province from January 2023 to October 2023.
Results: The results of nursing management work on general communication and behavioral skills were good at 70.2%, achieving 27.7%. The rate of nurses with good general communication and behavioral skills with patients was 83.3%, reaching 13.4%. The rate of patients evaluating nurses as having general communication and behavioral skills was 52.1%. Many patients, young nurses with no experience or awareness of their roles and responsibilities in patient care, and cramped, stuffy, hot environments were factors that affected nurses' communication and behavior.
Conclusion: The results of nursing management in general communication and behavior were good at 70.2%, but the rate of patients evaluating nurses' general communication and behavior skills was not high (52.1%). It is necessary to strengthen training and coaching for nurses to improve patient communication and behavior skills.
