32. THE OUTCOMES OF CARE MANAGEMENT AND RECOVERY AFTER LOBECTOMY FOR LUNG CANCER TREATMENT AT THU DUC CITY HOSPITAL

Abstract

Objective: To survey the current state of management of care and recovery after lung cancer surgery at Thu Duc City Hospital.

Subjects and Methods: A retrospective study was conducted on the medical records of patients diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer who underwent lobectomy from 2015 to December 2023. The primary outcome variables included postoperative length of stay, postoperative complications, and 30-day readmission rates.

Results: A total of 51 patients participated in the study, with the majority being male (66.7%) and under 60 years old (62.7%). The average postoperative length of stay was 9.5 ± 5.3 days with a median of 8 days. The postoperative complication rate was 2%, and the 30-day readmission rate was 3.9%.

Conclusion: The study provides the status of care and recovery after lung cancer surgery at Thu Duc City Hospital. The prolonged postoperative length of stay indicates the need to implement the Enhanced Recovery After Surgery (ERAS) program to shorten hospital stays and improve the quality of treatment and patient care for lung cancer patients. Current management practices are suboptimal, with poor interdepartmental coordination and ineffective pain management prolonging recovery times. Hospital management plays a critical role in the successful implementation and oversight of the ERAS program.
