Abstract

Objective: Determine the rate of depressive disorders in HIV/AIDS patients undergoing ARV treatment at Dist 6 Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam in 2023, and some related factors.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 375 HIV/AIDS patients receiving outpatient treatment at Dist 6 Medical Center, from December 2022 to June 2023.

Results: The rate of depressive disorders among HIV/AIDS patients receiving ARV treatment was 59.7%. Among them, 50.0% had mild depressive disorder, 17.9% had moderate depressive disorder, and 32.1% had severe depressive disorder. Some stimulant use behaviors related to depressive disorders in HIV/AIDS patients included methadone treatment, smoking, and alcohol/beer use (p < 0.05).

Conclusion: It is necessary to have measures to support patients' psychology right from the beginning to reduce the rate of depression in HIV/AIDS patients.
