Objective: Describe the results of management and treatment of patients with knee osteoarthritis by using Jin's 3 needle technique, Tam ty thang remedy, and physiotherapy.
Subjects and methods: Clinical intervention study without control group, clinical evaluation before and after treatment, including 45 patients ≥ 40 years old, diagnosed with stage I, II, III knee osteoarthritis. Before treatment, patients were evaluated clinically and paraclinically using the VAS scale, WOMAC index and knee joint range of motion. Then treatment combines 3 methods: Jin's 3 needle technique, Tam ty thang remedy, and physiotherapy. Evaluate results after 7 and 15 days of treatment.
Results: Patients with knee osteoarthritis after 15 days of treatment, the efficiency of VAS score from 6,08 ±1,54 decreased to 1,33 ± 1,37 with areduction difference of -4.75 ± 0.69 (p<0.05); The average WOMAC total score decreased from 49.58 ± 11.19 to 12.11 ± 7.71 (p < 0.05); Three indices of WOMAC pain index, WOMAC stiffness index and WOMAC fysical function index all decreased significantly (p<0.05); The increase in knee joint range of motion 21.86 ± 7.68° (p<0.05). No unwanted physical symptoms were noted during treatment.
Conclusion: The results of treatment management of patients with primary knee osteoarthritis responded well to three combined treatment methods including Jin's 3 needle technique, Tam ty thang remedy, and physiotherapy; and safety during patient treatment.
