Research objective: Describe knowledge and practices about plastic waste and identify some factors related to the knowledge and practices of middle school students Hung Loc and Hung Dung, Vinh city in 2024.
Research method: Cross-sectional study on 377 middle school students in Hung Loc and Hung Dung, Vinh city, Nghe An province from January 2024 to May 2024.
Research results: The ratio of male pupils is 50.1% and female pupils is 49.1%. The percentage of pupils with good knowledge about plastic waste is 38.7%, and 31.6% have good practice. Hung Dung pupils have 1.588 times more knowledge than Hung Loc pupils (OR = 1.588; 95%CI = 1.046-2.410; p = 0.029). 9th grade pupils have 18.45 times the knowledge of 6th grade pupils (p < 0.001; OR = 18.45; 95%CI = 8.199-41.531). Pupils in grade 8th and 7th grade have 8.88 times and 4.60 times better knowledge, respectively, than pupils in grades 6th (p < 0.001; OR = 8.88; 95%CI = 4.496-17.539 and p < 0.001; OR = 4.60; 95%CI = 2.619-8.09). 9th grade pupils have 8.23 times better practice than 6th grade pupils (p < 0.001; OR = 8.23; 95%CI = 3.608-18.739).
Conclusion: Pupils' knowledge about plastic waste is still limited. Pupils' practice of plastic waste is not good. It is necessary to launch and propagate measures to reduce plastic waste for secondary school pupils.
