Abstract

Basic Life Support (BLS) is an important technique for saving patients with cardiac arrest, is taught in medical curriculums. Performing BLS within the very initial minutes after the present of cardiac arrest on patient significantly improves the patient’s survival rate.

Objective: Research aim to figure out the percentage of students majoring in General Medicine and Nursing in their last two years of study program have good knowledge about BLS and some related factors. Population and Method: Cross-sectional study was conducted on students majoring in General Medicine and Nursing in their last two years of study program at Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine.

Results: The precentage of students with good knowledge about BLS is 16,9% following with related factors: witnessing case of performing BLS; receiving instructions on BLS while taking care of patients infected with COVID-19; attending in classes teaching about BLS in the university curriculum; taking training courses on BLS in the activities of the clubs in the university; reading the instructions, documents about BLS and the period of time from the last time study BLS.

Conclusion: The percentage of students with good knowledge about BLS is not high and there are related factors that can help suggest solutions to improve this situation.
