Objective: Evaluation of neonatal outcomes in mothers with Covid 19 infection at Ha Noi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital
Materials and method: A retrospective cross-sectional study describing 1261 pregnant women diagnosed with Covid 19 infection at Ha Noi Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from December 2021 to April 2022. Of these, 1008 neonatal from 985 preganancies with Covid infections.
Results: The mean gestational age at the termination was 38.4±2.1 weeks. The gestational age at birth of pregnant women with mild and moderate Covid-19 were mainly above 37 weeks (88.3% and 83.6%, respectively), while those with severe Covid-19 from 32 to 37 weeks (52.1%). The average birth weight was 3017±536.9 grams, mainly above 2500 grams (88.0%). Of these, 0.5% infected with Covid-19, 6.8% required respiratory support device, 5.5% was neonatal jaundices, 1.5% was neonatal infections, 9.2% admitted to the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and 0.8% resulted in death. The average duration of admission was 12.34±14.1 days, mainly above 7 days (46.2%).
Conclusion: Covid-19 increased the rate of premature, neonatal morbidity and mortality, particularly related to respiratory failure and admission to the NICU. Therefore, it is appropriate to prioritize vaccination of pregnant women and women planning pregnancy.
