Abstract

Background: Ovulatory dysfunction is a condition in which ovulation does not released according to a regular cycle, leading to menstrual irregularities and potential risks of polycystic ovary syndrome, infertility, endometrial cancer, type 2 diabetes, lipid metabolism disorders, sleep apnea, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease, and more. Investigating the prevalence of anovulatory disorders and related factors is essential to make timely adjustments and prevent complications arising from this condition.

Objectives: To determine the prevalence of Ovulatory dysfunction and associated factors among female third-year medical students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University.

Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 212 third-year female medical students at Nguyen Tat Thanh University from December 1, 2023, to January 31, 2024.

Results: The prevalence of Ovulatory dysfunction in the study population was 13.2%. Associated factors included obesity, hyperandrogenic phenotype, and a prior diagnosis of polycystic ovary syndrome.

Conclusion: The prevalence of Ovulatory dysfunction in this study remains relatively high. Several associated factors are modifiable, particularly weight control and early detection of polycystic ovary syndrome. This study provides a basis for implementing appropriate interventions to prevent complications resulting from Ovulatory dysfunction.
