Introduction: With the development of diagnosis techniques in lung cancer and the screening programs of lung cancer, many small and early lesions were detected on CT scans. Segmentectomy is the surgical procedure that can preserve lung function and radical surgery for early stage lung cancer. We review the indications of segmentectomy in lung cancer management and the initial result of segmentectomy at Cho Ray Hospital.
Method: Update literature - based review of indication for segmentectomy and a retrospective description of five patients performed for segmentectomy at Cho Ray Hospital.
Result: 5 early stage lung cancer patients are performed for segmentectomy: 4 patients were S6 segmentectomy, 1 patient was done lingulectomy.
Conclusion: Segmentectomy is indicated in non-small cell Lung cancer patients with peripheral nodules less than 2cm, no involved lymph nodes. Segmentectomy is safe and effective for treating lung cancer. Most patients performed segmentectomy at Cho Ray Hospital are S6 segmentectomy.
