Objective: To describe the clinical characteristics, determine the incidence of complications during maintenance hemodialysis, and evaluate the outcomes of nursing care in pediatric patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease (ESCKD) undergoing maintenance hemodialysis at Children’s Hospital 2 in 2025.
Methods: A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted on 70 pediatric patients with ESCKD receiving maintenance hemodialysis at the Department of Nephrology–Endocrinology, Children’s Hospital 2, from January 2025 to April 2025. Data were collected from medical records focusing on complications occurring during hemodialysis sessions as well as nursing care and patient counseling activities.
Results: Edema was the most common clinical manifestation (57.1%), followed by pruritus (22.9%). The overall rate of complications during hemodialysis was 25.7%, with hypertension being the most frequent complication (12.9%). Nursing care during maintenance hemodialysis was assessed as adequate in 91.4% of cases, while health education and counseling were adequately provided in 84.3% of patients.
Conclusion: Complications in pediatric patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis require greater attention. Strengthening nursing care and health education, particularly regarding diet, rest, and monitoring interdialytic weight gain, may help improve complication-related outcomes in these patients.
